The Mesh Point - an Option Football coaching podcast

The Mesh Point was a series of Coaches Corner podcasts produced for Option Central by CompuSports Radio. The series was comprised of 12 podcasts, including Volumes 7, 10, 11 and 12 which are below. The entire collection of Mesh Point Podcasts is available to Option Central Members.

The Mesh Point series concluded with Volume 12 in which Coach Steve Gunther discussed his years on the staff of legendary Emory Bellard at Spring-Westfield High School in Houston, Texas along with the three books that he has recently published on Option Football, including "How to Coach the Wishbone Football Offense, According to Emory Bellard", "How to Coach the Flexbone Football Offense", and "How to Practice Option Offensive Football".

 

In the Mesh Point (Volume 11) , Coach Rob Zeitman, Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI talked about the Short Pistol Option Offense that propelled the FSU Bulldogs of his long time associate and Head Coach Tony Annese to an 8-3 overall record and a second-place 8-2 finish in the tough GLIAC North Division standings in 2013. This year marked the second consecutive year in which FSU broke the school single-season rushing record under Zeitman and Annese, as Ferris State led the GLIAC and ranked sixth nationally in rushing offense( with a school-record 317.4 yards per game) and had the GLIAC's second-highest scoring offense (38.8 ppg) and ranked 12th nationally in total offense (492.5 yards per game).

In The Mesh Point Point Volume 10 Coach Jerry Campbell explained his system for the Quarterback to "Check" into the best play call through the use of his Option on Me technique combined with paired Option plays. In The Mesh Point (Volume 7), Coach Tony DeMeo continued the discussion of his Triple Gun Offense that began in a  Coaches Corner (Volume 72) show heard on The CompuSports Radio Network in early 2013. Topics covered include the Triple Gun Offense, the Gun Triple - the core running play in the Triple Gun Offense, the importance of timing between the backfield and line blocking, "smart splits", creating seams vs. cracks in a Defense, and complementary plays.
